OSCAR SECO

( "We are all going to die", From March 20th to June 20th)

We are pleased and honored to present the latest work by the great artist Oscar Seco. To all the catastrophes, tinged with irony, that the artist narrates in his paintings or drawings, the pandemic is now added, during which he has worked on this new series. The child that is always inside him plays to recreate his apocalyptic and fantastic worlds, introducing superheroes, monsters, or little soldiers, who coexist within flamenco or baroque bucolic landscapes. The end result of this mixture of eras, styles and colors that squeak together, is a Molotov cocktail that Oscar Seco throws at the viewer, warning that, in one way or another, we are all going to die.

Oscar Seco / VAMOS A MORIR TODOS

This new series continues to reinforce the metaphor about the very nature of human beings and their relationship with their environment. INQUIRIES about the paintings

"The pandemic forced me to set up the studio at home and paint smaller sizes."

"The new series that I present in Fireflies Gallery entitled #vamosamorirtodos perfectly reflects the year of pandemic that all the citizens of the planet have suffered. Due to confinement problems, mobility, lockdowns ..., this past year I chose not to go down to my studio. This situation forced me to set up a small studio in my house where I have worked all year 2020. In order not to complicate things at home, I decided to paint a series of medium-sized paintings 81 x 100 cm. The series reflects with great irony the complex situation that we have had to live, and of course it is a compendium of all my obsessions narrated in my work in recent years, a world of infinite catastrophes where I can metaphorize with the situation that we have encountered. "The catastrophe, tinged with irony, marks the character of my work."

“Catastrophe tinged with irony is a constant in my work, be it pictorial, model or videographic, and war and disasters are almost always present in my work. Disasters change the course of history and have direct influences on art, politics and culture. I like to relate them in a playful, iconoclastic and ironic way with appropriate characters, from comics, literature, cinema or history itself, for example in the series dedicated to the Spanish civil war, where superheroes or monsters from Japanese series B are mixed with characters from our own historical memory. "

In Oscar's work there are constant references to a forgotten childhood.

In Oscar's work there are constant references to a forgotten childhood, to a shared childhood, temporarily located in the last half of the last century. Oscar Seco stages parallel worlds, apocalyptic visions, superimposed universes connected by arborescent or intestinal traces that link nature with machines of destruction. The cinema in general influences him, and especially the series B, the fantastic literature from Borges to Philip K. Dick, poster design or graphic design, are reflected in a work where political correctness does not exist. Art has to function as a critical voice, harsh but without acrimony, as an opponent to this air of complacency that surrounds and drags us.

Oscar Seco / VAMOS A MORIR TODOS

"War imagery and the animal world have always been present in my work."

The nature part comes from my passion for biology and especially paleontology. I have to refer to another time where the Internet did not exist and albums of stickers of zoology, botany, weapons or dresses of the world, where the encyclopedias were full of many fascinating images. " (Oscar Seco)

(Oscar Seco)
